Sonoco Platform

Overview

Sonoco Platform is the first digital platform for packaging and display commerce. Built on modern stack technology, it offers a highly customizable digital experience for customers. Platform is designed to be a scaleable dashboard of tools for customers to simplify otherwise cumbersome processes from design to purchasing and fulfillment.

  • Establish a user-centric design approach to inform UX strategy.

TURNING CUSTOMER INSIGHTS INTO USABLE FEATURES

  • Customers no longer want to rely on emails to relay digital assets.
  • Simple on-boarding to easily to manage teams.
  • A system that bridges their legacy database with Box API to store files in the cloud.
  • 3D previews of projects and ability to interact with models.
  • Ability to annotate project status in real-time.

Brainstorming and mapping

Using the insights gained from user interviews, I created a user flow map that integrated the fundamental features into a system that remained simple and intuitive. We then worked to scale these features into web/mobile mockups and establish a visual language throughout the application.

Working with the development team, we combined usability testing with various customer insights to determine the best way to integrate new features into the visual design.

SCALING FEATURES to work better together

After several months of having the application live, we began identifying areas based on user insights that were lacking features and causing friction in the application. Customers wanted more visibility to project management and the ability to communicate across company teams.

To address these requests, we introduced a real-time dashboard on the card catalog page and a messenger to enable the ability to communicate with the internal and external teams involved in projects.

Real-time Project Management

The dashboard gives full visibility to all ongoing projects with color indication. Users can choose between three colors to indicate if a project is in progress, on hold, or complete. 

3D preview

The 3D preview feature allows customers to view their project at any angle on any device. Models are rendered in real-time to show unbiased color profiles in a lighting environment that can be adjusted to different conditions. 

Simple collaboration

We integrated a messenger and activity feed into the dashboard to make collaborating with team members even easier. Collaborate on projects with individuals or talk to multiple team members in group chat to get everyone on the same page.
